I’ve spent some time working on a YouTube video of John Denver singing “Country Roads” with some nice Logan County photos included. My plan was to put it on YouTube and then embed the video here. However, I became concerned about getting hit with a lawsuit and changed my mind. I found a similar video with some nice photos of the Parkersburg area. Since the end of the video contain some advertisements, I assume it’s not infringing on any copyright issues. Nevertheless, I can’t take the chance of embedding it here but the link is below, enjoy.

Another West Virginia YouTube song video sent to me by a friend. Enjoy!
“I was born a West Virginian” by Eddy Bailes. Eddy was a Parkersburg native. He passed away in 2002.
BTW, anyone know where I can purchase an Mp3 of this song?
I was in Logan W.V. in 1955 visiting my great uncle Jess and Eva Bryant. I was with my mother and father Mary and Ted Browning we were there on vacation from Ca. My mother was the niece of Eva Dingus Bryant, and who is related to William Dinges, one of the first settlers in Logan. Eva was my grandmother Verda Dingus Fortner’s sister. We had driven all night, from Ohio along highway 10, curvie and steep, to get there at 6 A.M. We spent that day and night with them and I was facinated by the beauty of the country. We left early the next morning and we could smell bacon and eggs cooking and smoke coming from everyone’s chimneys. I’ll never forget the beauty and kind and loving people of Logan, W.V. Does anyone, that lived in Logan at that time, remember Jess and Eva Bryant? They had a daughter, who lived close by with a son about 7 years old, I don’t remember the daughter’s name.

Just helping Bob Marslender get a couple of facts straight. Bless him for remembering ANYTHING about us! Jack, not Vern, was the basketball star in the family. Anderson College was right–BUT, in Indiana. He was inducted into the LHS Hall of Fame just last year. Vern played mostly football and Lyle was a baseballer. Way to go, Bob!!
Vern and Lyle Wilson of the 3 Wilson boys in lower Omar; I delivered newspapers to their family and others in the ’50′s. I think Vern played basketball in South Carolina at Anderson College. Just seem to remember that. The Wilson house was near the old tennis court and basketball hoop where the newer church was ultimately built sometime around 1960
Great Site! My Brother, Vern, sent it to me via a link. I too have some pictures and stories to tell about growing up in Omar,WV. Will try to get them to you.

Frank–Great idea! I’ve already sent the website to about 6-8 Hillbillies. I’m from Omar–LHS class of ’50. I’ve got a lot of “stuff” I may try, somehow, to get to you. I admire the expertise and patience you have to undertake such a project and keep it “moving”. Thanks, a lot–Vern Wilson
